FOUNDER:
We belong to the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (FIHM), was founded in Pondicherry, India, on 16th October 1844 by “Servant of God” Rev. Fr. Louis Savinien Dupuis, Missions Etrangeres de Paris (Paris Foreign Mission Society, MEP).
Louis Savinien Dupuis served as the manager of Mission Press for about thirty three years and as a spiritual director of the congregation for thirty years. He became an expert in Tamil, Kannada and Telugu during his mission in India. He is the author of Tamil-French-Tamil dictionary. He divided the marvelous Tamil Epic “Thembavani” into four parts for an easy understanding of the public.
Servant of God Louis Savinien Dupuis has been a man of God, a multifaceted expert in the development of Tamil language, a person who sowed the seeds for women enhancement through women education. He is the founder of Immaculate Higher Secondary School Pondicherry in 1844. Generation after generation his name will be remembered for the selfless contribution towards women empowerment.
The motto of the Congregation is: ‘Love and Sacrifice.’ The main ministry is to educate women and the other ministries are Evangelization, Health care, Care for the aged, Pastoral and Social Service to achieve the specific objectives and Charism of the Congregation.
